I was the first person in Appleton to have radiation with the SAVI device, and I feel very lucky that it was an option for me. I first noticed a lump in my breast over the summer. When it didn’t go away after a little while, I went in for a mammogram. I hadn’t had one in almost 7 years – I just didn’t think breast cancer was something that would happen to me. Two weeks later, I had a biopsy. Then one Sunday morning, my doctor came to my house at 7 am to tell me I had cancer. He said he didn’t want to tell me over the phone.

I made an appointment with a breast surgeon who recommended SAVI. She also talked to me about whole breast radiation, which takes 6 weeks, but she said I was a perfect candidate for SAVI. So I said, “Let’s do it. I’ll be the guinea pig.” I liked that SAVI took so little time and that it directed the radiation just to that one part of my breast that needed it.

I’m so glad I chose to go with SAVI. It was so easy and fast, and they treated me so well. I never felt the SAVI device going in or coming out, and even though I got a little tired during the radiation, I was still able to do everything I normally do. I had absolutely no problems with it, and I would recommend SAVI to anyone who can have it.
