Treated with SAVI – December 2011

In October of 2011, I was at our Women’s Ministry’s Bible study and the theme was PINK. They gave instructions on doing breast self-exams, so I went home and did one. I found the lump.

I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. My treatment options were to have a lumpectomy or a mastectomy, radiation and chemotherapy. My surgeon removed the tumor in November and found that my lymph nodes were negative. My first thought was to do Whole Breast Radiation, since I had never heard of SAVI, but after several conversations with my nurses and my own research, I realized how blessed and fortunate I was to be a candidate for SAVI. As my nurse told me, if you can get partial breast radiation, DO IT, since not everybody is eligible.

My SAVI treatment began on December 8th, just twice a day for five days, instead of five times a week for six weeks, so I was still able to travel over the Christmas holidays! I did not have any complications and the procedure was simple and easy. I did not experience a decrease in my energy level and there was no pain and no skin irritation during the treatments—and NO skin damage! I felt like a Bionic Woman!

I’m so glad I was able to have treatment with SAVI. I would recommend it to anyone and I hope to share my story with as many people as possible.
